Blog Post One: Peaceful

Bright blue sky and the crispness of the coming fall.
A place you can find yourself, escape the pressures of home.
Stay a minute, Walk a mile, Run, Bike, Be free.
Ever changing and always content.
Cool, Crisp, Shade.

Come to me to be free, walk alone in your thoughts.
Hear the children’s laughter, scampering about.
Get lost in the woods, see the bikers fly by.
Hear the crunch of the leaves, the snaps of the twigs
Birds chirping, the wind rustling the leaves of the trees towering above.

Come climb my hills, feel the damp red clay beneath your feet.
Let out your breath, release your anxieties and feel renewed.
Glance at the view above you, take it all in.
Leave rejuvenated, full of peace.

How lucky am I to have you so close by.
A few miles drive and I can be away from the noise.
All day I hear noise.

Busses, cars, scooters. People on their cell phones, horns honking, dump trucks banging away.
The band goes on and on, drumming, drumming, drumming away. MAKE IT STOP!
Rush to class, Rush to work, Cram the readings in.
Study for this, What do you think about that? She said this and He said that, all this noise jumbled in my head.

All I want I peace. A place to relax and finally be able to hear my own thoughts.

Alas, I’ve arrived. My peaceful escape from life.
This is life, in harmony with nature.
Feeling the cool air and blanketed by shade. Being among others in search of the same thing.
Peace.

  1. The use of adjectives reinforces the natural instinctive idea that is made present from the pictures—both the background and the one in the blog post. Adjectives of abstract ideas that allude to nature are used. This creates a sense of a destination that away from society. This place is defiantly somewhere woodsy, away from society. This person creates a character that struggles to find peace with themselves in the hustle and bustle of the day to day life in a city or suburb setting.

This character just wants freedom. He/she desires to be alone and with peace with their thoughts. This woodsy area is somewhere not too far from where “home” is to this character. Arguably, the character feels more at “home” or at “peace” here than where he/she actually resides.

One thing that stood out and irked me as a reader was the title—both of the blog itself and the URL. I believe that the creativity of the blog should transpire into both parts. A title is such a vital part of a piece. One can evoke so much by proper usage of a title. Instead, the reader is presented with “Writing Blog.” This does not do much for the blog. I am aware that this is a class assignment, but I personally feel that the creativity should be constricted to the posts themselves.

The background image and the one used for the background do create a sense a peace. I believe the author was aiming for this considering the content of the post. Personally, I would like to see play on typography: usage of bold text, italics, underline etc. In a short read, the text blends together. Blogging creates the option to use visuals to stress importance. I think if the author worked on typography in future posts, the message of the post would become stronger.

In sum, I think this blog does create a wonderful sense of imagery with the text itself. I think that because this is a blog, other components that make a blog different from regular text written for most classes should be used.
